Since the Covid-19 outbreak restricted social gatherings, weddings booked for this spring and summer have been a tricky topic. If you’ve set your heart on getting married this year but accept it may be next, an Essex hotel may well have the solution. Down Hall country house and estate near Hatfield Heath on the Essex-Hertfordshire border is offering a fully refundable deposit scheme to all couples who book to hold the date from September 2020 or throughout 2021. Following a virtual tour of the hotel, couples pay a £500 deposit to hold a date, then have a month once lockdown ends to confirm. Deposits will be refunded in full if prospective brides and grooms decide to release the booking.

Freshly renovated last year, Down Hall’s upgrade focused on the West Wing, redeveloped for weddings and other events with six new spaces such as The Oxford Room, licensed for civil ceremonies and with garden views and The Bridgeman with that all-important dance floor and private garden. New rooms include the new Liddell Suite, with a fire and chrome freestanding bath at the foot of the bed.

The small Eden Spa has four rooms for ESPA treatments including one double, a hydrotherapy pool, mood-lid sauna, and steam room. The Italianate hotel has a semi-rural feel near Hatfield Forest yet is barely fifteen minutes from Stansted Airport and 45 minutes from London with 110 acres of parkland and landscaped gardens creating a photogenic backdrop for those all-important wedding photos.

Wedding packages from £165 per head for a minimum of 60 guests, with dates available seven days a week throughout the year.
