Firstsite, Essex: Free Downloadable Activity Pack for Children

Firstsite Essex Children's entertainment

Let’s be honest, many of us are already getting fed up with being cooped up inside. To ease the boredom and help keep us busy, Firstsite in Essex launches today an activity pack downloadable for free.  Continuing its mission to make art available to everyone, ‘Art is where the home is’ aims to help keep children and young people entertained and engaged during the current coronavirus lockdown.

The innovative Essex visual arts centre wrapped in golden metal, enlisted the help of major British artists it has previously worked with including Antony Gormley, Grayson Perry, Jeremy Deller, Gillian Wearing, Michael Landy, Vanley Burke, Ryan Gander, Idris Kahn, and Annie Morris and people taking part are encouraged to share their creations on social media using the hashtag #artiswherethehomeis and also in Firstsite’s online studio

‘Art is where the home is’ fits onto one piece of A4 paper and doesn’t require special equipment so there’s no excuse not to get involved in activities ranging from writing a diary from the perspective of an animal, writing a poem in praise of a toilet roll (my personal favourite for obvious reasons) and drawing a self-portrait with your eyes closed.

Sally Shaw, Firstsite Director says "The mission of Firstsite is to empower people, no matter their background, to be creative together and lead happier and healthier lives - by providing them with new creative opportunities and promoting imaginative responses to contemporary issues. Creating this activity pack is something we are able to do to help support everyone, building a virtual creative community to help combat feelings of isolation and anxiety.”
